Privacy and law

The rules are the product.

A camera in the home of a person who is being cared for touches the dignity of two people: the senior and the carer. That is why every rule of Austrian data protection law is not small print here, but a feature.

  • No camera in private areas

The bedroom, the bathroom and the carer's room always stay free. This is not an option that can be switched off.

  • No audio

Microphones are disabled. Conversations are not recorded, in any room, at any time.

  • No face recognition

The hub detects that a person is in the picture. Not who. There is no biometric matching.

  • Deleted after 72 hours

Everyday recordings are deleted automatically. Only events in protected zones stay sealed, with a documented purpose.

  • Sealed until there is an incident

There is no live image and no browsing. Recordings are opened only after a reported reason, for a specific period.

  • A log of every access

Who opened which period and when is written to the log. The carer can see it.

  • Signage and information

A sign at the front door and an information sheet for the carer in German, Slovak, Romanian and Polish, handed over before the first recording.

  • Data stays in Austria

Stored encrypted on SafeCloud, an Austrian cloud service. No sharing with third parties, no servers outside the EU.

Purpose: protecting the person and their property

The cameras serve to protect your parents and their property and to secure evidence if something goes missing. They do not serve to check how someone works. That is the difference between a guardian angel and surveillance, and it is written into the contract.

Who is responsible for what

Under data protection law, the family is the controller for the recordings in the flat. We, IERA GmbH, are the processor: we operate the equipment, keep the recordings sealed and delete them, on the basis of a data processing agreement. Our staff technically cannot view recordings; they are encrypted per household.

The carer

The carer is informed before the first recording, in writing and in her language. She knows where the cameras are, that her room is free, that no audio is recorded and that nobody watches live. If a period is unsealed, she is told. She can request the access log at any time. An honest carer is better protected with Seniorenschutzengel than without it, because an accusation is no longer one word against another.

If your parents can no longer decide for themselves

Then the person authorised to do so decides: an adult representative or someone holding a power of attorney for care. We clarify this during the consultation, before any camera goes up.

Website and app

This website uses no cookies and no tracking. What we process in operating the service is described in the privacy policy. The information about processing in the flat is given to you and to the carer in writing before installation.

Honestly: a camera is not the right answer in every situation. If we notice during the consultation that your parents or the carer do not want it, we say so and look for another way with you.
